Our team, established in 2010 by owner/instructor Mike Brucci at Heart Restart CPR Training, boasts a cumulative experience of 86 years in the field of Emergency Medical Services as first responders. This extensive experience enables us to offer our students a perspective grounded in real-world insights and approaches, ensuring a comprehensive and practical training experience.

Meet our instructors


Mike Brucci – EMS provider since 2006

My name is Mike Brucci, and I am a happily married father of three currently working as a Lieutenant Paramedic serving the community in which I live.

Since 2006, I have served as a first responder, starting my career as a firefighter EMT and advancing to a firefighter paramedic in 2010. In my role as a paramedic, I took on additional responsibilities as a field training officer with the fire and EMS agency I am presently associated with. It was during this period that I obtained my credentials as an instructor for the American Heart Association, specializing in Heart Saver, BLS, ACLS, and PALS courses.

Beyond my contributions to the American Heart Association, I earned an associate’s degree in general education in 2017 and am actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in fire administration.

Since 2020, I have been an instructor at a local fire academy. Additionally, I co-own and operate an online educational platform for firefighters, www.CouchCourses.com. In 2020, I also established Brulito Businesses DBA Heart Restart CPR Training. Since the beginning of 2024, Heart Restart CPR Training has grown to encompass a team of dedicated instructors.

Brent Florea – EMS provider since 2007

Brent Florea is a dedicated family man, firefighter, and educator known for is unwavering commitment to serving others. As a Lieutenant at Englewood Fire, Brent exemplifies leadership and bravery in the face of adversity, ensuring the safety and well-being of his community day in and day out.

With over 14 years of experience as a BLS and Heartsaver Instructor, Brent has played a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of emergency responders. His passion for teaching extends to his role as an instructor at the Englewood Fire Academy, where he imparts invaluable knowledge and skills to aspiring firefighters.

Brent holds an Associates in Fire Science, a testament to his dedication to continuous learning and professional development. Beyond his professional pursuits, Brent finds joy in spending quality time with his loving wife and three children. Whether it’s coaching baseball or casting a line while fishing, Brent cherishes moments spent with his family and finds fulfillment in making memories together.

In every aspect of his life, Brent Florea embodies the values of service, dedication, and integrity, making him a true asset to both his community and his loved ones.

Bobby Whetsel – EMS provider since 2008

My name is Bobby Whetsel, and I am a dedicated husband and father of three. I began my public service career in 2008 as a certified EMT with Polk County EMS. In 2011, I transitioned into FIRE/EMS and earned my paramedic certification. Over the years, I have gained extensive experience across various settings, including private transport, critical care, and both rural and metropolitan environments.

In addition to my fieldwork, I have served for many years as an EMS instructor, with a primary focus on paramedicine, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Basic Life Support (BLS). I find great fulfillment in teaching and take pride in helping develop the next generation of emergency medical professionals.

I hold an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medicine. Outside of work, I value spending quality time outdoors with my family, enjoying the balance that a strong personal life brings to my professional commitments.

Joseph Harris – EMS provider since 2011

37-year-old married father of 2 children; I was born and raised in Tallahassee, FL.  After graduating High School, I joined US Marine Corp until my honorable discharge in 2009.  I moved to Broward County in 2011 to complete Paramedic/Firefighter training and become Nationally certified paramedic through NREMT.  I worked private ambulance/hospital from 2011-2014, where I joined Lee County EMS.  I joined CCFEMS in 2016 as a FireMedic and was a Field Trainer of paramedics from 2018 – 2021.  Winner of the 2019 “Paramedic of the Year,” I’ve taught all AHA disciplines and paramedicine at local schools, daycares, and medical facilities since 2016.  I currently hold an AS in Emergency Medical Services and a BS in Fire Administration.

William Vanhelden – EMS provider since 2013

My name is William Vanhelden, and I proudly serve as a Firefighter Paramedic with Charlotte County Fire & EMS since October 2017. With nearly seven years of dedicated service in Charlotte County, and an additional four years with Lee County EMS as both a Paramedic and an EMT, my career has been deeply rooted in emergency medical services. Additionally, I have had the privilege of being an American Heart Association instructor for several years, a role in which I find great joy and fulfillment in teaching and sharing my knowledge with others.

Caleb Vanhelden – EMS provider since 2019

Caleb VanHelden is a highly skilled firefighter and paramedic with extensive experience in emergency response and crisis management. Serving as a field trainer and SWAT medic, Caleb demonstrates exceptional expertise in high-pressure situations, where precision and leadership are paramount. His passion for teaching and mentoring underscores his dedication to preparing the next generation of first responders to excel in their critical roles.

Beyond his professional commitments, Caleb values quality time with his family, including his wife, daughter, and two beloved dogs. His steadfast commitment to service, compassion, and continuous personal and professional growth reflects the core values that drive his success in both his career and personal life.
